Next debate in the boardroom on 27 May to take up directors’ interest in contracts

The Institute of Chartered Corporate Secretaries of Sri Lanka (ICCSL) in partnership with Daily FT will present the next in the series of debates in the boardroom on 27 May from 4.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. at the Hilton Colombo Residence, Colombo 2.

The subject identified for debate is “Boardroom responsibility for directors’ interests in contracts should not be limited only to disclosure.” This is under the broader debate theme of “Is corporate governance in Sri Lanka really working in practice or is it only an apology.”

The first event was held successfully in March.

Consultant and former Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chairman Chandra Jayaratne will define the parameters of the debate on the 27 May event. The proposers will be Nigel Hatch - President’s Counsel and P. Deva Rodrigo - Chartered Accountant whilst the opposers are Aritha Wickramanayake - Attorney-at-Law – Senior Partner Nithya Partners, and Kumar Jayasuriya, FCMA, Chairman – Finlay Ceylon PLC.

Thereafter a discussion involving an eminent panel Dr. Harsha Cabral, Chandra Jayaratne,

R. M. S. Fernando and Suresh Shah will follow. The event will be moderated by Daily FT editor. Main sponsor of the event is Etisalat.

Participation is by prior registration with the fee being Rs. 3,500 (Non members), Rs. 3,000 (ICCS Members) and Rs. 2,000 (ICCS students).
