NCE Secretary General Shiham Marikar along with officials participated at the JITF held from 27 to 29 January.

The NCE has been a regular participant at this event during the last four years to achieve its objective to bring economic prosperity to the people in the north. In this context the chamber has provided an opportunity for member exporters to develop business linkages with producers in the north, especially in the agriculture sector, to export their products to overseas markets.

The JITF has developed into a comprehensive business focused exhibition providing a good platform for member exporters of the chamber to expand business linkages with the producers in the north for mutual benefit, and for the prosperity of the people in the north. Untitled-5

It has also provided a platform to meet investors related to export oriented ventures and also establish links with policy makers in the relevant State institutions for business development, at a time when Sri Lanka is focusing on policy and political approaches to promote reconciliation between the peoples of the north and south through opportunities for private investments.

Ten member companies of the chamber displayed their products and services in exhibition stalls in the NCE pavilion. Thirty other member companies exhibited in their own stalls in addition outside the pavilion. Most of these exhibitors have been repeat participants since the event meets with their objective to find business opportunities in the north.

At the inauguration ceremony of the event the Secretary General of the Chamber made use of the opportunity to apprise the audience and the distinguished guests regarding the forthcoming 25th Annual NCE Exports Awards Ceremony of the chamber to be held in September this year in Colombo, which serves to recognise and reward the achievements of Sri Lankan exporters in the International market place, as well as the achievements of the service providers to exporters.

The Secretary General stated that in keeping with the vision of the new President of the NCE and the Council of the chamber, it has embarked on an outreach program to encourage and reward the achievements of regional export-oriented enterprises especially in the SME sector.

This program has been undertaken in coordination with the regional chambers who will carry out the initial selection of suitable candidates from among their respective members. Thereafter their applications will go through an independent selection process of the chamber by professional judges.

The applicants from the regional chambers for the conferment of special awards could be direct exporters of products and services, indirect exporters, or service providers to exporters who serve as links in the export value chain.
