NCE Chief to address WTO’s 5th Global Aid for Trade in Geneva

The 5th Global Aid for Trade conducted by the WTO is being held in Geneva from 1 to 4 July.

Sarada M. De Silva, President of the NCE who is also the Chairman of the Ceylon Cinnamon Association, and Founder Chairman of the Spice Council, will address the conference on 1 July on ‘Geographical Indicators (GI)’ and ‘GI as a vector of development, and a warranty of quality in International Trade,’ in response to the invitation extended to him by the WTO. 

During the conference De Silva will also participate in the plenary session and the following sessions which would be of overall benefit to the spice industry in Sri Lanka: Reducing Trade Costs for Inclusive, Sustainable Growth; Effective Implementation of SPS Measures to Facilitate Safe Trade; Reducing Trade Costs in Asia and the Pacific; Getting Past Non-Tariff Measures: Reducing Costs for Business; Reducing Trade Costs in Sough – South Trade; Business Unusual Post – 2015: New Donor Directions in Combining Aid and Trade for Farmers; Implementing Trade Facilitation and Paperless Trade for Sustainable Growth: Evidence from the UN Regional Commissions; Reducing Trade Costs by Mapping Sustainability Standards in Supply Chains; Reducing Trade Costs and the Aid-for-Trade Results Agenda: Lessons from Recent Evaluations and Impact of Studies; Managing Non-tariff Measures in Sustainable Development Strategies; and Aid for Trade in Support of Sustainable Development Goals. De Silva will also meet senior officials of the World Trade Organization (WTO), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), International Trade Centre (ITC), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

His visit is being coordinated by Director General of Commerce Sonali Wijeratne and Sri Lankan Ambassador in the Permanent Mission to the WTO in Geneva R.D.S. Kumararatne.
