Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10. The session will be inclusive of tea and lunch.
Rubina Sen, Senior Coordinator from GRI South Asia, will be the Guest Speaker. Topics are ‘Understanding GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards’ and ‘Overview of the current trends with regards to Sustainability and Accountability’.
A sustainability report is an organisational report that gives information about economic, environmental, social and financial performance where sustainability information promotes transparency trust and confidence in companies.
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is an international sustainability standard setter that helps businesses, governments and other organisations understand and communicate their impacts on climate change, human rights and corruption. It enables policy makers, businesses, think tank bodies, civil society and media to make sustainability reporting a standard practice and help accelerate sustainable economic development through sustainability reporting. The 5th GRI Global Conference was held recently in Amsterdam participated by 77 countries including Sri Lanka.
Many companies now produce an annual sustainability report and there are a wide array of ratings and standards, but really, they are intended to be “vessels of transparency and accountability”. Sustainability reporting is a more recent concept that encourages businesses and institutions to report on their environmental performance.
