With the setting up of the Vietnam Embassy in Sri Lanka, many opportunities to increase bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Vietnam have been highlighted.

At the recently-held discussion at the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL), Vietnam Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh indicated that there were many opportunities in the areas of exports, imports, investments and tourism for both countries to develop businesses.

The Ambassador was also of the view that if direct flights were introduced between Sri Lanka and Vietnam, two-way tourism could become one of the major economic activities between the two countries, among other things.

With a view to exploring the business opportunities, the NCCSL is planning to send a 15-member business delegation to Vietnam.

The programme will consist of meetings with Hochiminh business community, Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, meetings with Ministry of Industries and Trade in Hanoi, visit to sites of archaeological interest – underground dug out tunnel network of 200 km used during Vietnam-USA war, Ngoc Son Temple of King Ly in Hanoi old quarter and shopping at leisure at Ben Thanh market.

They will also have an opportunity to study the recent economic and business development in Vietnam.

The delegation is planning to leave on 30 October 2011 and return on 4 November 2011 after spending six days in Vietnam.

The visit is being arranged with the support of the Vietnam Embassy in Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Vietnam.

The tour package covers full board hotel accommodations on sharing basis, return air fare, airport pickups and drops in Hanoi and Hochiminh cities and internal travel in domestic flights from one city to another.
