Wincon Development Ceylon Ltd., a subsidiary of MTD Walkers PLC, together with the Ministry of Public Administration, Local Government and Democratic Governance has launched its very first affordable housing project ‘Richmond Hill Residencies’ in Galle.
The first-of-its-kind project in the Southern Province was declared open by former Minister of Public Administration Vajira Abeywardena. MTD Walkers PLC Executive Deputy Chairman Jehan Amaratunga, Wincon Development Ceylon CEO Lalinda Kalubowila, Southern Provincial Councillors, senior management of MTD Walkers PLC, members of the media, civil society representatives and the general public also graced the event.
Commenting at the opening ceremony, Kalubowila said, “We are proud to have been part of this historic project and would like to invite all public sector and private sector employees in Galle to take advantage of the unique Richmond Hill Residencies offerings. As a company we would also like to take this opportunity to assure our commitment to completing our mandate set forth in the Nila Sevana project. We look forward to extending affordable housing projects of the same nature to other parts of the island as well.”
Endorsed by the Board of Investment in Sri Lanka, Richmond Hill Residencies comes under the Nila Sevana public servants housing project which aims to construct 25,000 affordable housing units. Although public sector employees are given preferred pricing, the homes will be available for the private sector as well with a unit price of Rs. 3.2 million upwards.
Richmond Hill Residencies is situated approximately 3km from the Galle town and less than 1km from the prestigious Richmond College.
The 512 completed units are available in a three-bedroom 695 square foot variety or in a three-bedroom 776 square foot design.
The project also offers landscaped gardens with play areas for children, spectacular views from the upper floors, proximity to public transport, hospitals, supermarkets and the world famous Galle Fort.
Following the opening ceremony, MTD Walkers PLC also held an open day for public viewing that allowed interested parties living and working in close proximity to the project to view show houses that were set-up.
Plans have also been made for a five-day outdoor activation campaign in key areas in and around the Galle town post-opening.
The outdoor activation will feature a miniature model of the housing complex, model set-ups of the interiors and the chance to gather more information on the property.
