Although the Lakwijaya thermal power plant in Puttalam, with a capacity of 300MW was added to the National grid from March this year, the desired output was not achieved due to technical difficulties that unexpectedly arose.
However thanks to the capabilities and untiring dedication of the local and foreign engineers, numerous tests and observations were carried out during this period and while the problem areas were identified and remedial measures were implemented.
During yesterday’s progress review meeting the project engineers stated that the 300 MW of power which was denied earlier can now be added to the National Grid from this Friday.
The Ministry of Power and Energy, the CEB and the Lakwijaya project office announced that all measures are being implemented to add 300 MW of power to the National Grid from 9 July 2011.
