  • World’s largest floating book fair visits Sri Lanka once again
By Sarah Hannan To announce the second visit of ‘MV Logos Hope’ to Colombo, chief sponsors LG-Abans Ltd. hosted a media briefing last evening and stated that the book fair will be open to the public from Friday, 30 August to Sunday, 22 September at the Colombo harbour. Nathan Le Roux, Project Manager of Logos Hope, welcomed the gathering and presented a short video that reflected an overview of the ship and its predecessor fleet of ships under GBA Ships e.V., a non-profit organisation based in Germany. Speaking of its crew and staff, Le Roux mentioned that around 400 individuals hailing from 45 different countries serve the ship as volunteers, donating their time, talents and energy without any reward or remuneration. During its visit to Colombo in 2011, more than 96,000 visitors were welcomed on board, most of them comprising of families and book lovers who enjoyed their time amidst the cosy environment, boasting over 5,000 titles of quality books. Attendees this time around will witness interactive cultural programs and will be given an opportunity to sign the Captain’s Log via laptops that would be made available on the deck. In keeping with the tagline ‘Bringing knowledge, help and hope’, the crew and staff will also conduct special programs designed for schoolchildren to widen their global vision. Furthermore, the crew will take part in charitable work in and around Colombo, including visits to homes for elders and orphanages, conducting free eye clinics and donating reading glasses to the needy. The opening ceremony of the Logos Hope will be graced by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa upon the arrival of the ship. Visitors can purchase tickets to board the ship through the ticket booth located at Sambodhi Chaithya on Chaithya Road from 28 August onwards and will be priced at Rs. 500. Visitors will be provided with a shuttle service from the entrance of the Colombo harbour up to the port. The ship will be open for public viewing from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from Sunday and Monday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wrapping up the media briefing, Abans Assistant Brand Manager Fritz Fernando handed over the sponsorship papers to Logos Hope Logos Hope Guillermo Suco.
