LG-Abans have once again come forward as the exclusive sponsor of the Logos Hope, the largest floating Book Fair in the world, when it visits Galle and Trincomalee and will be open to the public in Galle from 26 December 2013 to 7 January 2014 and in Trincomalee from 10 January 2014 to 16 January 2014. Logos Hope is the newest vessel in the GBA Ships fleet, first launched in 2008. She now sails across the globe with the purpose of bringing knowledge, help and hope to the nations of the world. The crew and staff of around 400 are from 45 different countries, serving as volunteers and donating their time, talent and energy without any reward or remuneration. Serving as an ambassador of goodwill and international relations, MV Logos Hope seeks to transform communities via practical help and actions of humanity. Over the past 40 years GBA Ships have been warmly received in over 500 ports in more than 160 countries, as the ships provide good educational literature and promote unity in diversity. During the ship’s previous visit to Sri Lanka in August 2013 more than 500,000 visitors were welcomed on board at the Colombo Port. Most of them were families and book lovers who enjoyed the literature and the cosy environment. Besides offering a variety of over 5,000 titles of quality books to the public, cultural interactive programs were also held on board the ship. Special programs have been designed for school children who will be given the opportunity to widen their global vision. The crew members also participate in charitable work including visits to elders’ homes and orphanages, testing people’s eyesight and giving out free reading glasses to those who need them. LG-Abans always look for an opportunity to serve the community in any useful and worthwhile way such as sponsoring sports and youth activities that benefit the younger generation and the community as a whole. The huge response the ship’s last visit to Colombo has prompted LG-Abans to unanimously sponsor the 2013/14 visit to Galle and Trincomalee so that more Sri Lankans will have the opportunity of visiting this magnificent floating library especially from the rural areas. During their visit, guests have the opportunity to sign the Captain’s Log via laptop computers scattered around the deck, giving a record of their visit. They then receive a ‘thank you’ message which includes a photograph of the ship and a message from the captain, which will also carry the LG-Abans Logo.
