State Finance Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena yesterday pledged to create a better financial management culture in the country by introducing new policies to take Sri Lanka forward as a developed country by 2020.
Speaking while assuming his ministerial duties in a ceremony at the Finance Ministry, Abeywardena said that instituting better expenditure management without increasing the burden on the people was a key focus of the Government.
“Better financial management comes with better fiscal policies,” he added.
He pointed out that President Maithiripala Sirisena’s election on 8 January and the unity government’s victory on 17 August were key stepping stones towards ensuring good governance in Sri Lanka.
“We have a special task to perform in the unity government. I will put forth my best effort while working together with Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake,” Abeywardena added.
President Maithiripala Sirisena, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, ministerial secretaries and other distinguished guests were present at the occasion.
