Kapila Ariyaratne has been appointed as the General Manager and CEO of Seylan Development Plc.
The appointment follows the resignation of K. Rathnayaka who was Director/Acting CEO with effect from 30 November 2012. Ariyaratne is also the General Manager/CEO at Seylan Bank Plc.
Seylan Developments said Ariyaratne along with Seylan Bank CFO Ramesh Jayasekara have been appointed as Directors of the company.
Ariyaratne commenced banking career with Grindlays Bank and counts over 27 years of banking experience. He has held responsible positions at ABN AMRO Bank NV, Mashreq Bank PSC, Arab National Bank Riyadh and further as Senior Deputy General Manager, Corporate and International Banking and Head, Corporate and Institutional Banking, Commercial Banking and Branch Credit Development of People’s Bank. He was the Deputy General Corporate and Institutional Banking of Nations Trust Bank prior to joining Seylan Bank in March 2011. He is also a Director of Lanka Financial Services Bureau Ltd. Ariyaratne holds a first class honours degree from the University of Colombo.
Jayasekara prior to taking over as Seylan Bank CFO was Deputy Regional Financial Controller for BNP Paribas Middle East Region based in Bahrain. He has over 15 years of banking, financial management and audit experience. He was also attached to HSBC Sri Lanka as Resident Manager PFS Finance and Planning and also carries with him the experience of working as an Audit Manager at KPMG Sri Lanka. Jayasekara holds a first class honours degree in Commerce from the University of Colombo. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK and an Associate Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants.
Following the new appointments, the Board of Directors of Seylan Developments Plc comprises R. Nadarajah (Chairman), S. Palihawadana (Deputy Chairman), R. De Silva, K.P. Ariyaratne, P. Saravanapavan, P.M. Gunasekera, M.K. Muthukumar, and R.J. Jayasekara.
