Harris Ceylon, a household brand name which has been with its consumers for 44 years was awarded the prestigious certificates of ISO 9001:2008 for quality management systems, ISO 14001:2004 for environmental management systems and OHSAHS 18001:2007 for occupational health and safety recently, after a rigorous process of evaluation of the integrated systems and its implementation within the organisation was reviewed and approved by representatives of 157 countries.
“This achievement not only highlights our commitment, but the emphasis given by us to the quality of our products, where our consumers as well as distributors could ensure that they are receiving nothing but the best”, Harris Ceylon Factory Manager Sujeewa Subasena expressed his views regarding this achievement to the media.
Furthermore he expressed his view on receiving OHSAHS, a certificate given to organisations who carry out exceptional measures to ensure the health and safety of its employees, “This shows the measures our organisation has taken as an employer to ensure the safety of their employees, which we as an organisation consider as an integral part of us.”
The Systems and Services Certification Business Manger of SGS, Sri Lanka, Batuvita Sumanasiri, at this occasion expressed his views regarding this as follows “ISO 14001:2004 certification is awarded in recognition for the commitment demonstrated for environmental stewardship. Environment has become so important today as our planet has started responding to the disturbances we have done to the nature.”
He also spoke in this occasion, the importance of receiving these certifications for an organisation, “We are happy today to see that a leading brand name in this country has taken the bold step to be a quality conscious, environmentally friendly, health and safety concerned in performing its manufacturing activities. “You have demonstrated leadership in quality management, health and safety management, waste management, conservation of natural resources, minimising waste, controlling the use on non-renewable resources. You have decided to bring this change at a time when the desire among individuals to change their behaviours has become the need of the day.”
Harris Ceylon Director Operations Rajeev John, spoke on this occasion regarding this certification, “With the certification of ISO 9001, OSAHS and ISO 14001, we as an organisation can further strengthen the confidence and trust placed upon us by our valued customers in the area of quality and durability. As the market leader in paint brushes and decorative tools the company is committed to maintain high quality standards at all times, with a lot of emphasis given towards the environmental safety.”
In addition to this he stated the benefits the organisation would receive from this as follows, “The globally accepted certification for quality standards will enable us to compete more aggressively in the international markets; securing significant growth in future exports. The company in its diversification efforts is exploring new overseas markets and business opportunities worldwide.” This historic landmark for Harris Ceylon in the industry as well as for their organisation has been because of the excellent quality they have maintained with regards to their production process, management of their employees as well as their environment.
