ICC Sri Lanka starts Foundation Certificate in International Business

The International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (ICCSL), the domestic chapter of Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce, the world business organization, has commenced its Foundation Certificate in International Business (FCIB) for 2017, offering a plethora of knowledge in areas such as logistics, Customs and E-Business for the future business leaders of the country. 

The three-month-long certificate program has been designed focusing on those who seek employment in the fields of Banking and Finance, International Business, Freight Forwarding, International Marketing and Shipping and Logistics. 

The certificate course, which commenced on 18 January, includes two short courses, one on the much-awaited ‘E-Business, Internet, Social Media and Open Source Software’ and another on ‘Logistics Freight Forwarding and Multimodal Transport’, which commenced on 1 March. 

“We have partnered the best resource personnel in the respective fields to provide firsthand and comprehensive knowledge to those who follow the program. In fact, we have already partnered up with the ICC Academy in Singapore and the Director General of Ports and Shipping. We are awaiting the Director General’s endorsement for the FCIB Certificate since we cover all the areas they wanted us to include in the Freight Forwarding and Multimodal Transport module. We are also planning to partner up with the Colombo Institute of Logistics Management (CILM) for some of our future programs,” said ICCSL Chairman Keerthi Gunawardane.

Lal Jayawrdane, Chairman of the Education committee of ICCSL, said the FCIB was not another orthodox certificate program.

“Since we have the experts with us to cater to students, the certificate course will always be updated in keeping with international trends and standards. If Australia introduced a new method or a regulation with regard to Customs responsibilities, we need to be aware of that trend not in six months’ time, but today itself. This is the exceptionality of FCIB offered by the ICCSL. We have always evolved with the new trends be it local or international and will continue to do so in the future as well since we have an ICC network spanning over 130 countries. The ICC network is so strong and interconnected that we know what are the latest business trends and developments in our member countries. This helps us in modifying FCIB modules and keeps the program up to date,” said Jayawardane.

The ICCSL invites those accustomed to thinking unconventionally and outside the box to join the FCIB to expand their inclusive knowledge on business and marketing. 

The International Chamber of Commerce has a longstanding history of providing education for those in the business field through its ICC Academy in Singapore. 

The international organisation has over the years expanded to 130 countries with a membership drive of over 6.5 million. Trade Facilitation, Export and Import and Cross Border Issues pertaining to Goods Transport are some of the areas addressed by the ICC. 

The ICCSL is the local chapter of the ICC which holds the sole authority to issue ATA Carnet. They are the originators of Incoterms, Certificates of Origin and conducting arbitrations.
