Sri Lanka is set to host a high-powered business delegation from Qingdao city in China on 15 May 2015.
The Sri Lanka-China Business Council (SLCHBC) will facilitate the business and networking event, which will be attended by the delegation. The event will be held under the theme of ‘A New Business Silk Road to Qingdao’ at the Taj Samudra. An MoU will also be signed during the event, which would be followed by a networking lunch and individual B2B meetings.
The Qingdao delegation will consist of 20 members, representing 14 successful and reputed companies from the city. Among them will be the Managing Director and Manager of the India Trade Company Ltd. of Haier Group, Chairman and General Manager – International of Tsingtao Brewery Company Ltd. (a Fortune 500 company), President, Director and Assistant Director - Overseas Business Department of Qingdao Port Group Co. Ltd., Chairman of Qingjian Int’l Group Company Ltd., Vice President of Hiking Group, General Manager of Shandong Hiking Int’l Commerce Group Co. Ltd., Vice General Manager of AUCMA Company Ltd., Vice President of Qingdao JIFA Group Co. Ltd., General Manager of China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation, CEO of Qingdao Haide Road & Bridge Engineering Co. Ltd., CEO and President and Operation Manager of Rubber Valley Group, General Manager of Qingdao Ruichang Cotton Industrial Co. Ltd., President of Qingdao Luhaifeng Foods Group Co. Ltd. and Head of China Citic Bank Qingdao Branch.
The primary aim of this visit is to promote trade and economic relations between Qingdao and Sri Lanka thus helping to foster greater economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and China. Top officials of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) and the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) as well as members of the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka - China Business Council, will be in attendance during the organised events.
The Chinese delegation have expressed interest in meeting with Sri Lankan companies engaged in sectors such as port logistics, fishing, engineering, agriculture, construction and finance.
Chunyu Xianli, Vice Director- General of Qingdao Bureau of Commerce and Navindra Abeyesekera, CEO of Lanka Ceramic Plc and President of the SLCHBC, will initiate the event by welcoming those in attendance and introducing the representatives. There will also be speeches and presentations delivered by other esteemed individuals at the event, such as Liqun, Party Secretary of Qingdao CPC, Yi Xianliang, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Upul Jayasuriya, Chairman of the BOI and Jeewani Siriwardene, Additional Director- General Development at the EDB.
This business networking and matchmaking event will culminate in a strategic Memorandum of Understanding being signed by the SLCHBC and the Qingdao delegation.
