Hayleys Exports Plc yesterday announced the appointment of G.M.P. De Silva as the new Managing Director succeeding R. Piyasena who relinquished office with effect from 2 August 2011.
Piyasena will continue as an Executive Director of the company.
Hayleys Plc also announced the appointment of J.A.W.M. Jayasekera as an Executive Director of the company with effect from 2 August 2011.
De Silva serves as a member of the Management Committee and as the Head of Fibre Sector of Hayleys.
He is a follow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) and possesses a Green Belt in Six Sigma from the Motorola University and a Graduate certificate in Human Resource Management from TAFE (NSW) Australia. He recently returned from Australia where he served as the Director, Finance at the office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Department of Health. Prior to moving to Australia, he was the Vice President, Personal Healthcare Operations of Ansell Inc, and was based in Thailand with responsibilities in Thailand, India and South Africa. He carries a successful track record having led the turnaround of Coirtex Limited, Lanka Walltile Limited and Ansell Lanka Pvt Limited during his tenure as the CEO.
Jayasekera Serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Industrial Fiber Sector of Hayleys and as a Director of Bonterra Lanka Limited. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Science, from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardenapura. He is also a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and a member of Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. He has an extensive commercial background in the fields of marketing and sales, finance and controlling, business restructuring development and planning, and informatics system.
