Hameedia Ltd. Deputy Managing Director Hussain Sadique, who headed the group’s operations, will exit the group’s Management Committee in order to function in a strategic business capacity outside the core business sector.
The youngest of the three brothers at the helm of Hameedia, Sadique, who joined the family business just after leaving school, rose to be its Deputy Managing Director and completes 30 years of service this year.
He is set to exit the Management Committee of the Hameedia Group and head new projects and ventures outside the group’s core business sector, while harnessing his experience and function in a strategic capacity.
“Hameedia has adapted and thrived amid the changes in the industry and expanded its footprint while pioneering business benchmarks and industry firsts. The company has served three generations of customers, worked with three generations of employees and partnered with three generations of suppliers. It is now poised to welcome the third generation of leadership within the company to bolster it to the next level and become a local brand with a global reach and focus,” Sadique said.
Sadique is an old boy of D.S. Senanayake College and is also a past President of its OBA. Joining the family business in his formative years, Sadique has hands-on experience in the industry and has utilised his knowledge and training to steer Hameedia to a leading position in the industry.
Over the years the trio of brothers behind Hameedia - a name synonymous with high quality custom tailoring and retail for gents - has raised the benchmark of menswear in Sri Lanka and carved a firm niche in the industry. Leveraging on its business legacy and industry expertise, Hameedia is poised to take the company to the next level in order to meet the changes and challenges of a fast-paced business world and cater to its clientele better. The group is poised to unveil a new plan with changes in its top structure. Hameedia has achieved success through its undiluted focus on its brand, product strategies, bespoke tailoring solutions, business partnerships and resilient team work. Established in 1949, Hameedia is now a household brand in Sri Lanka and a leader in menswear.
Aligning the assets of its leadership along with the company’s business values, Hameedia has fortified the national economy and grown from strength to strength. The leadership team at Hameedia is led by the Managing Director along with a Board of Directors, Group Management Committee, Group Functional Management Committee and the Group Executive Management Team which form part of the 1,100 member strong Hameedia team.
Sadique is a life member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors, Founder Director of Alif International School and Northwood College, a founder member of the Sri Lanka Master Tailors Association, a founder member of the former domestic garment industry association (currently Sri Lankan Apparel Brand Association), an associate member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and the founder Chairman of the Aluthgama Development Foundation.
He is also an advocate of social service and engages the group employees in community work. He was instrumental in setting up Hameedia Volunteer Teams to be ready for any domestic and national emergency. At Hameedia, each employee is requested to do at least eight hours of volunteer work annually together as a team.
