Following an announcement in 2014 on the intention to progress opportunities in the Sri Lankan sapphire and gemstone sector, Gemfields Plc, the world’s leading supplier of responsibly sourced coloured gemstones is pleased to announce next steps in this regard. The company will shortly call for expressions of interest from local mining companies with a view to establishing an organised supply chain in the renowned Sri Lankan gemstone industry.
It is intended that Gemfields will offer support to the Sri Lankan gemstone industry through its technical capabilities, proprietary grading systems and marketing methodologies. Once the supply chain is established, the gems will be offered to international buyers via Gemfields’ proven auction platforms, thereby adding value to Sri Lankan gemstone production, growing the sector and contributing to economic development.
Gemfields CEO Ian Harebottle commented; “We are pleased to start this next phase of activity in the Sri Lankan gemstone industry. World famous for the quality of gemstones, we are optimistic we will be able to bring our proven-expertise to this already-established market for the benefit of local mining communities and the Sri Lankan gemstone industry.”
Gemfields UK now declared an invitation through Ratnapura Lanka Gemstones Ltd., a subsidiary of Gemfields PLC, for expressions of interest (EOI) with a view to setting up a supply chain in the Sri Lankan gemstone industry.
EOI are called from the interested licensed mining companies/persons and registered gem dealers with regard to supply of gemstones. Interested parties can submit, name of organisation, address, contact person, contact details and their company profile to Ratnapura Lanka Gemstones Ltd. on or before 24 August. Interested parties can call to 011 2 33 94 51 and get more information about this precious opportunity.
