The first solar power plant established in Baruthakanda, Hambantota was opened on Monday. The Chief Guest was MP Namal Rajapaksa along with Minister of Power and Energy Champika Ranawaka. According to Power and Energy Ministry sources, this power plant will add another 500 Kws to the National Grid.
The solar power plant has cost Rs. 412 million and the Korean Government has funded this project. The solar power plant will supply environment friendly solar power to 3,000 families living in Hambantota. Solar power will play a great role in the country’s power generation in future, sources added. The Ministry has also lined up large-scale solar power projects in the Northern and Eastern Provinces
