Riedel Glass, best known as the finest Crystal Wine Glasses in the world are now available in Sri Lanka.

Riedel was established in 1756 in Bohemia and 11 generations and 250 years later, Riedel has remained a family owned business. In 1673, when Johann Christoph Riedel was born in a Bohemian town, no one could have guessed that this was also the birth of one of the greatest glass enterprises in the world. This Bohemian glass merchant was the starting point for a direct line through several generations down to today´s corporate head Georg J. Riedel and his son Maximillian. Each Riedel in this long chain has been able to contribute his personal skills and views to expand the company´s success and make it what it is today.

Riedel has a restaurant series for the hospitality industry and a retail range for the contemporary wine drinker. Majority of the glassware revolves around Grape Specific wine glasses which are distinctively different in both shape and size. Riedel has a restaurant series for the hospitality industry and a retail range for the contemporary wine drinker. A majority of the glassware revolves around grape specific wine glasses which are distinctively different in both shape and size. Riedel produces a collection for every lifestyle and price range, whether for critical wine evaluation, a picnic or a candle lit dinner. With the vast collection of glassware there is definitely a series for anyone, be it a five-star resort in southern Sri Lanka or a wine enthusiast who would love to sit back and enjoy a glass of wine in the privacy of their home.

The unique characteristic of the glass brings out the wine’s bouquet, taste, balance and finish; something that an ordinary wine glass is unable to achieve. Riedel has designed a new set of lead-crystal decanters inspired by the bird life of Murano, the Venetian island famed for its glassware.Hand-blown, the Swan makes for an incredible centre piece and is Riedel’s very own description of the Swan.  The body of the decanter mimics the gentle curvature of the form of a Swan, forming “J” shape with an exaggeratedly elongated straight neck that narrows to the elliptical lip. Wine is simply poured into the wider opening of the Swan’s “tail” (which also forms a natural handle for services) then effortlessly poured into the glass from the narrow “neck”.

Riedel also has a chic ‘bar’ range, with specially designed glassware for enjoying a simple gin and tonic to appreciating a well aged single malt whisky.

Known to many as the Wine Glass which makes good wine – great, Riedel is used worldwide by most Michelin Star Restaurants, Wine Bars and Luxurious hotels. Many hotel chains including, the Intercontinental, the Hyatt, J.W. Marriot, The Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton use Riedel Glass in many of their properties around the globe. The JW Marriot in Hong Kong  is home to Q88 Wine Bar, with the world’s first and only Riedel Room offering an exclusive wine list where guests would be served with the top notch of Riedel’s Crystal wine glasses and decanters. In Sri Lanka, Riedel has already secured orders from some of Sri Lanka’s finest hotels and resorts and will be hosting the October Medal Round at Sri Lanka’s Prestigious Royal Colombo Golf Club.
