President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) and its small and medium enterprise development arm Project SMED Kosala Wickramanayake yesterday commended the decision by the government to ban the export of metal scrap.

He said it was a praiseworthy motive which will be a blessing for the Small and Medium scale Entrepreneurs (SMEs) of the country.

FCCISL works closely with SMEs all over the country and has a good understanding of the challenges faced by the small scale industrialists.

“Scarcity of the raw materials has been the major challenge for the small scale players mainly in brass industry, and they will be very much relieved with this new development. Intervention of the Industrial Development Board in this effort is highly commendable” Wickramanayake added.
