Mahe, Seychelles (Asiantribune.com): Errol Fonseka has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s new Honorary Consul in Seychelles. Shehan Ratnavale, Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Pretoria, South Africa concurrently accredited to the Seychelles presented Fonseka on 15 January 2013 with the Commission letter of appointment.
The appointment also comes as a prelude to a planned visit by the Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris to Seychelles in the coming months. The new Honorary Consul has links with both countries on account of being the son of a decorated soldier of Sri Lankan origin and a Seychellois mother. Fonseka is himself a former British Special Forces soldier whose military decorations include the Falklands War South Atlantic Medal, the Northern Ireland Campaign Medal, the Gulf War Campaign Medal and the Liberation of Kuwait Medal. He also has wide business involvements that include security services, trading and a restaurant.
