Sri Lanka’s iconic beverage brand Elephant House Ginger Beer, lovingly referred to as EGB, has achieved another milestone in its growing international popularity, with it now being carried at the Walmart-owned Asda in the UK, the country’s second-largest supermarket chain by market share.
Available in its 330ml can variant, EGB was especially selected by Asda, due to it being increasingly preferred by UK customers, who frequently choose this natural ginger flavoured Sri Lankan export over dozens of UK- and EU-based beverages at their disposal.
Further, Elephant House beverages, including Elephant House Necto, another very popular Elephant House brand, have also been available at top UK supermarket chain Tesco, since November 2014.
It is also noteworthy that this major achievement in the Elephant House Beverage range’s growth trajectory was the culmination of over 12 years of committed hard work in growing Elephant House’s export business, which saw the company begin exporting initially to the UK, Canada, Switzerland, France and Germany.
Today, Elephant House exports have grown to encompass over 26 markets worldwide, presently also including Norway, Italy, Belgium, Denmark and the Czech Republic, in Europe, as well as most countries in the Middle East and even Australia and New Zealand.
“Being specially selected by the UK’s top two largest supermarket chains, Tesco and Asda, as a part of their very high quality product portfolios, has set Elephant House beverages up to compete against some of best brands in the world. This is not only a great honour for our beverage brands but also, as our profile increases, positions us for entry into a number of new global markets in the future,” said Ceylon Cold Stores PLC Head of Beverages/John Keells Holdings Vice President Daminda Gamlath.
