Sri Lanka’s apex trade promotions organisation, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) has just completed a nine-month-long strategising process with MTI, culminating with the final draft of the strategic plan for the EDB.
Financial support to develop the EDB strategic plan was made possible through the USAID program, Facilitating Economic Growth in Sri Lanka, which was implemented by the International Executive Service Corps (IESC) through the Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance (VEGA).
The SLEDB is the country’s foremost State organisation mandated for the promotion and development of exports. Performing the roles of policy advisor, monitor, promoter, facilitator, and knowledge provider, the EDB’s key role is to achieve the national export goals, and to increase the country’s export value of products and services.
EDB Chairman and Chief Executive Bandula Egodage stated: ‘I have no doubt that the development of this Strategic Plan, based on MTI’s internationally acclaimed 8S model, will allow the EDB to facilitate Sri Lanka’s exporters to be globally competitive and enable Sri Lanka to achieve its export goals, thus contributing to the national economy. Our experience working with MTI was very constructive, as they provided a useful external perspective in helping us assess our efficiencies, as well as identifying those areas which required improvement.”
MTI Consulting CEO Hilmy Cader added: “We are honoured to have been selected to facilitate in the development of the strategic plan for the EDB, and to work alongside a dedicated team of individuals at the EDB.”
