Renowned expert Dr. Howard Nicholas will share some key insights to the current status of global economy at a seminar on 20 January organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and supported by the Daily FT as print media sponsor.
Dr. Howard Nicholas is known for his early warnings on the Asian crisis (1996-8), the collapse of the NASDAQ (2000-3), and the recent global crisis (2008-9), having given numerous lectures and interviews prior to these events.
He has been monitoring the developments in the global economy and has held business seminars in several countries including Belgium, China, the Netherlands and Spain which has been sought by business leaders in these countries.
At a time like this when the global economy is unpredictable and investments are at risk his insights into the world economy may provide you with a better understanding on the directions of the world economy and how it will impact your business.
The seminar organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on ‘Making Sense of the Global Economy for Business and Investment Decisions’ on 20 January 2012 at Hotel Taj Samudra is intended to share his expertise with the Sri Lankan business community.
In addition to his work as an advisor for business he is currently attached to the University of Erasmus, the Netherlands as a senior Lecturer. He is better positioned to advice the business community in Sri Lanka given his grasp of the Sri Lankan economy due to his experience in analysing the Sri Lankan economy and his advisory services to the business and Government during his stay in Sri Lanka some years back.
The seminar will have two sessions; a breakfast briefing on ‘Making Sense of the Global Economy for Business’ to apprise the business community on the outlook of the global economy in the short and long term, possible impact on Sri Lanka and what strategies could be adopted by business.
He will be joined by Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, former Director, Economic Affairs Division, Commonwealth Secretariat and Mano Selvanathan, Director Carson Cumberbatch PLC at a panel discussion. The breakfast briefing will be chaired by Susantha Ratnayake, Chairman, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
The second session will be an interactive workshop for investors on ‘Optimising returns in a Turbulent Market’. He will explain the different financial instruments and how to select the investment mix, the global economic structure and how investments will be affected by changes in the structures, how and when to invest in different instruments (equities, bonds, commodities, etc.) based on economic situation and how derivatives can be used to reduce risks.
