Dr. Anura Ekanayake has been appointed to the Board of Chemanex Plc as a Non Executive Independent Director with effect from 29 August.
Dr. Ekanayake is an economist with wide experience in both the public and the private sectors. He is a past Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Industrial Association of Sri Lanka.
He is currently Chairman of Wealth Trust Securities Ltd., Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd., and Asia Siyaka Commodities Plc. He serves on a number of other boards of directors of listed companies and private companies including Hemas Holdings Plc, Hayleys Fibre Plc and Elpitiya Plantations Plc.
Dr. Ekanayake holds a PhD in Economics from Australian National University. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Professional Managers, and holds B.A. (Econ) Hons and M.Sc (Agric) degrees from the University of Peradeniya.
He commenced his career as an economist in the Mahaweli Development Board in 1979 after obtaining his MSc (agric) degree and held a range of senior positions such as senior Economist of Mahaweli Authority, Director of Planning of the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Director General Public Administration before joining the private sector in 1998.
From 1998-2006 he held the position of Director HR and Corporate Relations of Unilever Sri Lanka and served on its Board. During this period he also served on the Boards of Lipton Ceylon Ltd., and Ceytea Ltd.
With the latest appointment, the Chemanex Plc Board of Directors comprises of Harsha Ameresekera (Chairman), Samantha Ranatunga, S.A.B. Ekanayake, S.S. Kulatunga and A.V.P. Silva.
