As one of the largest retail networks in the country that provides footwear, accessories and apparel to the local customer, D. Samson & Sons Ltd., which is the main marketing and distributing arm of the DSI Samson Group, believes in setting the trend when it comes to the latest positive developments like practicing environmentally friendly business. The organisation’s recent partnership with JLanka Technologies, a company which serves as the premier PV installation group in Sri Lanka and is well known for the quality, sustainability, reliability and speed put in to all of their projects, is yet another initiative in promoting this belief.
The power plant was commissioned and connected to national electrical grid network on 27 August and it is designed to generate 36,000kWh of electricity per month.
D. Samson & Sons Ltd. plays the role of being the sole distributor of a line of local footwear brands featuring; DSI, Ranpa, Samsons, Jessica, Silviar, AVI, SuperSport, Beat and Waves while also serving as the distributor of many popular international brands such as; Clarks, Reebok, Puma, Flosheim, Umbro, Fila, Liberty, Red Tape and Proline Fitness.
D. Samson & Sons Ltd. spans all across the island with a total of more than 200 company outlets, 4000 dealers and 50 sales representatives. The newly installed 300kWp solar power plant is one of the largest privately owned solar power plants in the country and comes with latest module level power electronics based third generation solar inverter technology, complying with latest DC and fire fighter safety standards.
The principle advantage following the instalment of the new PV System is the 100% of daytime electricity consumption it provides. The 300 kW Solar PV System is a highly environmentally friendly power plant that saves a high amount of CO2 Emission as well as coal and diesel fuel per year. The monthly amount of greenhouse gas emission saved reaches a total of 29,000KG.
Among the special guests who attended the event of the instalment of the new PV System were; DSI Samson Group Managing Director Kulathunga Rajapaksa, D. Samson & Sons Ltd. Chairman Nandadasa Rajapaksa, DSI Samson Group Director Lal Nugaliyadda, D. Samson & Sons Ltd. Managing Director Thusitha Rajapaksa, D. Samson & Sons Ltd. Director Kaushalya Perera and other members of the management.
A representative from JLanka stated that as the premier PV group established in Sri Lanka they were happy to partner with DSS while Thusitha Rajapaksa said, “As a socially responsible business entity we have taken initiatives for environmental protection from the inception of the company and this is yet another initiative of that process. We always take actions to proceed with that in mind.”
