Commercial Safety (Pvt) Ltd., the sole authorised distributor in Sri Lanka for the VIRO S.p.A Italy range of domestic and commercial security protection goods, held a media briefing to introduce three new products to its portfolio at its Colombo office yesterday.

This coincided with a visit by the VIRO S.p.A Italy Export Manager Bechir Jerad, who was on a three-day business promotion tour of the country.

The products introduced at the briefing were the VIRO satellite-based burglar alarm module system for homes and vehicles, which feature an innovative SMS alert system in the event of theft or burglary, a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved baggage lock for frequent travellers to the United States, an universal locking bar for windows, a new VIRO safety padlock with an interchangeable locking mechanism which negates the need to replace an entire unit in case of a security breach, as well as an electronic gate lock.   Jerad told the Daily FT that customers should show greater care when purchasing VIRO products due to the availability of many counterfeits in the market. “The local customer needs to be aware of the availability of counterfeits being passed on as original VIRO products currently in the market. So I would like to take this opportunity to state unequivocally that Commercial Safety is the sole authorised distributor of original VIRO products in Sri Lanka since 2007 and that customers should purchase products solely from the authorised retail sellers certified by the company in order to take advantage of the five-year warranty on any VIRO product purchased. Further, the reason that we chose to partner with Commercial Safety is because of its track record for superior customer and after sales service. I would also like to state that we have extended to Commercial Safety our fullest backing in order to prosecute under Sri Lankan law any entity that imports and distributes counterfeits under the VIRO brand in the country, which we have and plan to continue in the future too.”

Speaking on the company’s expansion plans, Commercial Safety Chairman Faizal Buhary said: “We look forward to expanding our customer reach by opening a new showroom in Nawala in the near future and branches in Kandy and Galle as well. This is because we need to make our original VIRO product range more accessible to our customers so that they don’t end up purchasing a counterfeit product with no warranty or replacement policy. VIRO has a long history of producing quality since 1942, so we must endeavour to uphold the company’s reputation amongst our customers.”
