The MBA Alumni Association of the University of Colombo has been a trendsetter that has remained consistent in its mission of contributing to the socioeconomic development of the country.

Consider the fact that almost a decade ago it broke new grounds by singlehandedly organising the Post-Budget Seminar. As it expanded in scope and gained popularity, last year the MBA Alumni of Colombo University partnered with the Daily FT for its annual post-Budget seminar. The 2010 event on the Budget 2011 was an outstanding success as it drew record attendance.

This year for the association, it will be the eight consecutive year of being involved in promoting the national Budget and highlighting its salient proposals and impact on the economy. This year’s event, scheduled for tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo, is also the second post-Budget seminar to be held in partnership with the Daily FT.

“The post-Budget seminar is an important event in the calendar of the association and is a key platform of our mission to effectively contribute to the socioeconomic development of the country,” said Colombo University MBA Alumni Association Vice President Nishantha Jayasooriya.

“Over the years via our seminar we have played our part in promoting successive national Budgets and every year we have improved upon with support from all our members and other stakeholders,” he added.

The post-Budget seminar is also among the portfolio of events and activities which the association undertakes to further its mission. The MBA Alumni Association also holds the annual management conference branded ‘Beyond Traditional Boundaries,’ in addition to evening discussions and forums to serve needs of its members, the business community and the general public.

According to Jayasooriya, the association also actively contributes to the Colombo University’s highly-sought-after MBA programme, whilst working closely with the Faculty of Management and Finance of the university.

The association commands a growing membership of over 500 and among them are those well-renowned both in the public and private sector such as Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, Amal Cabraal, Shiromal Cooray, Hilmy Cader, etc.
