This will be the first time such celebrations are held away from Colombo. Sri Lanka China Trade and Investment Promotion Chamber is a duly incorporated body established with the primary objective of developing and strengthening bilateral business relations between Sri Lanka and China. 
Though it is comparatively young as a bilateral business chamber, it has marked its presence with a proven track record and won high recognition both in Sri Lanka and China by being a very active and versatile organisation committed to fostering ties between Sri Lanka and China for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The three-day celebrations were preceded by an essay competition on ‘Sri Lanka-China Relations’, for students in the Kandy District. Awards will be presented to the winners at the ceremonial proceedings. A Chinese Food Fair will then be held in the evenings, commencing from 10 October at the George E. De Silva Park with the participation of established hotels in and around Kandy offering Chinese food and delicacies at reasonable prices.
An added attraction will be a grand musical show, planned to be held on 11 October night at the car park of the Kandy City Center and in the vicinity of the food fair. Arrangements will be made to screen two Chinese films during the weekend.
The ceremonial proceedings will be held on October 11 afternoon at the Trinity College auditorium under the patronage of the Governor of the Central Province, the Ambassador of People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka, the Chief Minister of the Central Province, the Mayor of Kandy and a visiting high-powered delegation from China’s Sichuan Province. Arrangements have been are made to sign a Memorandum of Associations between Kandy city and Chengdu city in the Sichuan Province during the sessions. The winners of the students’ essay and art competitions will receive their awards at this function.
A foundation stone will also be laid for the Chinese Cultural Center in Pallekale - which will be funded by Sichuan - in conjunction with the Dalada Maligawa. The celebrations are open to the public.
