The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in a statement said yesterday it was pleased to note the publication of the Gazette Notification 1829/39 dated 27 September 2013 by the Ministry of Finance that would facilitate Sri Lanka Customs to implement changes to the export cargo clearance procedure. While congratulating Sri Lanka Custom’s initiative, the Chamber said it awaits the early and full implement of the ASYCUDA World system for both exports and imports. The Chamber has repeatedly emphasised the necessity for the exporters and importers to have a minimum paperless environment in the cargo clearance procedure that would ensure trade facilitation with minimum operational delays and cost. The areas that could be further improved are being taken up with the relevant authorities to achieve the paperless environment and the Chamber would continue to this dialogue. “This development will certainly help Sri Lanka  to climb up the ease of doing business ranking in South Asia would further improve its global rank and the country’s post war economic growth. What is more important is actual progress in reforms to have a material improvement in the regulatory framework and systems to ease business process,” the Ceylon Chamber noted.
