The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), capitalising on the prevailing conducive business climate in Sri Lanka, organised a Buyer-Seller Meet – BSM 2010 on 29 October 2010. This is the first occasion the CCC ventured into a project of this nature.

BSM 2010, which was organised in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the Department of Commerce and supported by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, attracted 75 overseas and 100 Sri Lankan delegates.

The overseas delegates comprised business community from Bangladesh, Dubai, India, Malaysia, Pakistan and Singapore and engaged in a range of products and services from the traditional/non traditional to value added products and services.

The delegation consisted of exporters, importers and those engaged in tourism and other services such as shipping, freight forwarding, construction, IT, etc. Great interest was also expressed in investing in Sri Lanka.

To give an insight into the Sri Lankan economy to the visiting delegates, presentations were made by the BOI, EDB and the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau on areas of investments and incentives available, Sri Lanka’s export performance and opportunities and Sri Lanka as MICE destination and tourism respectively.

This was followed by welcome cocktails during which the most renowned fashion designer in Bangladesh Aneela Haque presented a fashion show ‘Deshi Colours’ which blended well with the event.

The one-to-one matchmaking session offered each visiting delegate an opportunity to meet not only with the Sri Lankan business community, but also the advantage of interacting with the 75 delegates from the other countries.

The overseas delegates were very happy with the responses they received and quite a number of them were of the view that CCC should make this an annual event.

The Chamber spokesman commenting on the event said the CCC was extremely happy with the initiative they took in organising this Buyer-Seller Meet which was a golden opportunity for the Sri Lankan business community to meet with overseas delegates in Sri Lanka.

“We are extremely grateful to the main sponsors, Abans Group, Chemical Industries (Colombo) PLC, Classic Travel (Pvt) Ltd, Siedles (Pvt) Ltd. and the numerous other sponsors who made ‘BSM 2010’ possible. This is a result oriented event and there is no doubt that this Buyer-Seller Meet will be a boost to the Sri Lankan economy.”
