Cabinet approves MoA on BIMSTEC Secretariat

Cabinet last week approved the setting up of the Permanent Secretariat of BIMSTEC in Dhaka Bangladesh. The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is a regional inter-governmental grouping which was established in 1997 and it currently comprises of 07 Member States from South Asia and South-East Asia namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The proposal to sign the Memorandum of Association (MoA) on the establishment of BIMSTEC permanent Secretariat was submitted by External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris.
