The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) has revalidated its position as one of the country’s leading tertiary education providers by recording an impressive student registration of 10,000 for 2013.
With the new registrations, the institute has secured a phenomenal growth of an active student base of 41,000 students who are currently following the Institute’s globally recognised chartered accounting course.
In its capacity as one of the leading tertiary education establishments outside the university system, CA Sri Lanka has consistently endeavoured towards providing the country’s youth with a recognised accounting qualification which is recognized both locally and globally.
CA Sri Lanka President Sujeewa Rajapakse said the institute’s qualification attracts the best and the brightest of students from across the country. “Our institute commands an impressive recognition in the accounting world. The sheer increase in the number of student registrations each year is testament to our standing and recognition in the accounting world,” he noted. He added that each year the number of student registrations sees a healthy upward trend and every effort is been taken to ensure this momentum continues annually.
“The institute also regularly revises its syllabus in its efforts to keep abreast with changing global needs and offer students the best and most updated qualification. Accountancy is a global profession and CA Sri Lanka has a ‘global outlook’ creating strategic alliances to educate students in business, finance and management and empower them to take up Chartered Accounting as a career,” he said.
CA Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Aruna Alwis emphasised that the every effort has been taken by the Institute to ensure that students are provided with the best of services and facilities.
“The Institute has also established fully equipped information centres across the country covering Kandy, Matara, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Jaffna and Kalmunai, in its strive towards encouraging students from rural areas to join the Institute and make career headways in the accountancy field,” he added.
At present, CA Sri Lanka enjoys a membership of over 4,300 qualified chartered accountants who serve in various positions in the business world both in Sri Lanka and abroad. An impressive percentage of the CA Sri Lanka membership, counting to 60 per cent of the top 50 companies listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange have at least one CA Sri Lanka member in their director boards.
