The representatives of the Top 30 companies recognised at the Business Today Awards on Wednesday with Chief Guest Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and Ministers Ravi Karunanayale, Nimal Siripala de Silva and Sagala Ratnayake.
Popular magazine Business Today on Wednesday recognised the Top 30 corporate performers of Sri Lanka for the financial year 2015-2016.
The award ceremony was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who attended as Chief Guest along with his wife Prof. Maitree Wickremesinghe.
Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara thero, Chief Incumbent of the Gangaramaya Temple, and distinguished invitees attended the event.
John Keells Holdings held its number one rank for the seventh consecutive year. Its continued growth momentum and sustainable investments have ensured that John Keells Holdings has consistently maintained its position as the corporate giant of Sri Lanka.
Maintaining its strong position in the ranking, Commercial Bank is at number two. Hatton National Bank is ranked third.
Retaining its position amongst the top five, the Ceylon Tobacco Company secured fourth position with a commendable performance despite operating in a challenging environment. Moving up one place, Dialog Axiata completes the top five, emerging once again as a leader in the telecommunications industry.
Spearheaded by innovation and overseas expansion, Sampath Bank leaped to number six this year, significant progress from its number ten position in last year’s rankings. The Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka ranked seventh, recording consistent performance despite changes in the economic environment. As the largest non-banking financial institution in Sri Lanka, Lanka Orix Leasing Company emerged eighth, echoing its strong position due to diversification.
Nestlé Lanka ranked ninth and was featured amongst the top ten best performing corporates. Forging through a challenging year, Bukit Darah continued its stable growth by emerging at number ten.
Vallibel One progressed significantly to number 11 this year. The national ICT provider and national backbone network operator, Sri Lanka Telecom was ranked 12th. Emerging at number 13, Hayles recorded resilient growth amidst a challenging period. Peoples Leasing and Finance rose to number 14.
Ceylinco Insurance moved in this year’s top 20 companies, slotting in at number 15.
Positioning itself at number 16, Hemas Holdings too entered the top 20. Moving up three positions, Seylan Bank emerged at number 17, making its claim as a strong and stable bank. Propelled by growth in the domestic market, Chevron Lubricants Lanka advanced up to number 18 in the Business Today Top 30 rankings. At number 19, National Development Bank (NDB) reflects its resilience amidst a period of reduced margins.
Central Finance Company ranks at number 20. Meanwhile, DFCC Bank emerged at number 21. Aitken Spence ranked 22nd. After a lapse of four years, CT Holdings re-entered the Business Today top corporate rankings at number 23, progressing through diversification strategies.
Access Engineering maintained its position at number 24 by continuing growth through ventures in real estate and motor vehicles. Nations Trust Bank, which debuted in the rankings last year, secured its position by emerging at number 25. Lanka IOC emerged at number 26.
Textured Jersey, with major shareholders Brandix Lanka and Pacific Textiles, is at number 27. It is the first company from the apparel industry to be listed in the rankings, enabling recognition for an industry that is a major driver of the Sri Lankan economy.
Richard Peiris and Company re-entered the rankings at number 28. At number 29, Softlogic too re-entered the rankings after a lapse of three years. Singer (Sri Lanka) entered the rankings at number 30, completing the Business Today Top 30.
The Business Today Top 30 is strictly based on published information of companies listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange for the financial year ended 31 December 2015 and 31 March 2016 and was selected with assistance from KPMG Sri Lanka.
