An invoice of Orange Pekoe (OP) grade offered under Uva High at the Colombo Tea Auction held on 21 and 22 March for sale from the Battawatte Estate, Madulsima realised an all-time record price of Rs. 720 per kilogramme, breaking the previous record of Rs. 690 per kilogramme jointly held by the Battawatte and Oodoowerre estates. Battawatte Estate is managed by Madulsima Plantations Plc, a part of the Stassens Group. Teas were purchased by the Watawala Trading Company. Amongst the Western High Grown category an invoice of Mattakelle Dust1 equalled the all-time record price of Rs. 860 per kilogramme. Mattakelle Estate is managed by Talawakelle Tea Estates Plc, a subsidiary of Hayleys Group. This tea was purchased by S.B. Kahawatte. These teas were successfully marketed and sold by Asia Siyaka Commodities Plc.
