In the festive backdrop of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Arpico Supercentre; the largest hyper-market in Sri Lanka takes pleasure in celebrating the festivities together with its patrons.
Age-old Sri Lankan festive traditions are revived this Sinhala and Tamil New Year at Arpico Supercentres in Hydepark Corner and Wattala; facilitating Arpico customers with special Avurudu zones from 23 March to 12 April. The concept of special Avurudu zones is the value-added extension of the ‘Dolos Mahe Free Shopping’ promotion where over 100 winners stand a chance of bagging up to 12 months of free shopping.
Celebrating in the traditional customs of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Arpico offers its city-dwelling customers a real taste of the rural Sri Lankan culture, abundant with seasonal celebration. A mud hut, in the special avurudhu zones with an elderly ‘amme’ making konda kavum and other traditional sweetmeats will not only signify the simplicity of the conventional April festivities in the country, but also serve as a resting area for Arpico customers. This will also give the younger generation of Arpico-goers to observe rural utensils used in traditional Sri Lankan kitchens such as the pestle and mortar, ‘ilapatha’ and the overhead firewood storage area or the ‘dara massa’, to name a few.
The highlight of the Arpico shopper’s Avurudhu experience will be on 6 April at Hyde Park Corner and on 7 April in Wattala, when they transform in to vibrant, traditional New Year competition zones with shoppers given the opportunity to participate and win prizes and surprises throughout the day in events such as kana mutti bidima, aliyata eha thabima, tug of war, the gunny-bag race, kotta pora, lime and spoon race, raban gaseema, the wheel barrow race, andayata kiri kawima, onchili padeema, and the crowning of the avurudu kumara and kumariya.
