Auto & Metal Crafts is a company that started off as a small business and with careful and dedicated nurturing by its founder and chairman A.K. Ghandy who built it up to a formidable business, pioneering in stainless steel fabrication and designing, aluminium composite cladding, poly carbonate canopies and all kinds of signage.
Ghandy was educated at a premier Catholic School, St. Benedict’s College, Colombo. After graduating as an Engineer, he joined Bonars Ltd. where he served for four years. He then ventured out on his own with great determination, to establish his own business. As the name of the company suggests, he initially started off by repairing vehicles and later diversified into various other lines involving metal craft. The company systematically developed into a large enterprise as they kept getting large assignments from the hotel sector.
The exceptionally high quality of service with prompt execution and competitive pricing enabled the business to expand at a rapid pace. As demand kept growing more employees were recruited and trained in various aspects of metal crafts.
While providing exemplary service to the State Engineering Corporation, the company also expanded its services by establishing links with mega institutions in the construction sector such as Maga Engineering, Sanken Constructions, etc. With the Sri Lanka Custom House Project, which was awarded by Maga Engineering, and is probably the largest project ever handled in Sri Lanka, the goodwill of the company rose by 100%.
The company looks after the welfare and interests of its employees and their families and also assists low income families by providing employment to their children after leaving school. The children are trained in various aspects of metal craft and then absorbed into the permanent staff of the company.
Taking into consideration all aspects of company growth, efficiency, business ethics, staff welfare, etc., Nidahas Lanka Mass Communications unanimously decided to present the prestigious Swarnadeepa Award for 2012 to Auto & Metal Crafts.
