One of Australia’s leading technology-oriented universities, RMIT, recently launched an iOSmobile app for building inspection data management. The app was developed in Sri Lanka by Creative Solutions and is intended for exclusive use by Australian city councils.

With RMIT’s app, Australian city council inspectors will be able to capture building inspection data during field visits. The app allows them to view building information, navigate across building elements through a multi-level hierarchy, capture inspection data for building components, and even work offline.

The inspection data captured by the app is uploaded to an assets management system and used for scientific research and decision making purposes. This entire assets management system was developed by Creative Solutions over the past four years of their collaboration with RMIT University.

“This year, we celebrate four years of partnership with Creative Solutions and the fifth phase of the continuous development of our assets management system,” said Professor Sujeeva Setunge, Deputy Head, School of Civil and Chemical Engineering at RMIT University. “Throughout our collaboration, we’ve remained impressed by our Creative team’s ability to identify our complex requirements and their competency to realise those requirements through high-quality technical solutions.”

Apart from the assets management system, RMIT and Creative Solutions’ four-year-long partnership resulted in the development of several other software tools intended for the university’s scientific research. These tools include Climate Change Impact Modelling Tool for Port Structures, Storm water-Pipe Inspection Management System, and Strategic Bridge Management System.

“Throughout our collaboration with RMIT University,” said the manager of Creative Solution’s team, Damitha Liyanage, “the biggest challenge for us was to understand their complex scientific models derived as a part of doctorate research programs. It was our job to figure out how they could be presented for decision making purposes using software systems.”

Creative Solutions and RMIT University expect to continue their collaboration in 2016.
