‘Astana EXPO 2017’ in Kazakhstan under ‘Future Energy’ theme

The prestigious international exhibition EXPO 2017 is set to take place in the city of Astana in Kazakhstan from 10 June to 10 September 2017. The ‘Astana EXPO 2017’ exhibition will be held under the theme ‘Future Energy’ to reflect the energy challenges and opportunities that are prevalent in the 21st century.
The event will be attended by over five million local and international participants from a total of 100 countries and organisations from around the world. The exhibition will provide a valuable platform that will help showcase the latest advancements in the areas of energy, experimental design, environmental technology, infrastructure, construction and tourism.
Commenting on the upcoming event during a recent visit to Sri Lanka Iskakov Sapar, Promoter, EXPO 2017, stated: “The Republic of Kazakhstan is extremely proud to be hosting the world-famous EXPO 17 exhibition in Astana, Kazakhstan in a few years’ time. We are currently making the necessary preparations required to successfully conduct the event and we look forward to the participation of many countries from the Asian region. The event will showcase the very best of Astana and Kazakhstan whilst simultaneously shining a light on the very latest energy developments and initiatives available in the world. This exhibition will also help Kazakhstan and countries participating in the event, to make a smoother transition towards a brighter and greener economy and future.”
Hosting ‘Astana EXPO 2017’ is a significant milestone for the young nation of Kazakhstan and the event will create global awareness about the country and will highlight its unwavering commitment to energy efficiency. Kazakhstan is the first post-Soviet country selected to host the exhibition, which is a global event that focuses on making knowledge and developments in sustainable energy, universally accessible to all.
One of the core challenges that the exhibition will address, will be the global effort to reduce carbon emissions by controlling the use of existing and potential energy sources and using new technology to reduce the demand for energy across various industries. Part of the nation’s 2050 strategy for growth is to reduce carbon emissions in the electricity sector by 40%, the share of gas-burning plants in electricity generation by up to 30% and the share of alternative energy sources in electricity generation by at least 50%. The 25 hectare EXPO site will be fully self-contained and energy efficient, with solar panels providing energy for the entire structure and a large pavilion. A food and recreation facility along with ample parking and electro-mobiles will also be provided.
A sound entertainment program comprising more than 3,000 shows, major music events and recreational activities dedicated to the arts, cinema and theatre will also be featured at the exhibition. Designed to look and operate as a model city of the future, the ‘Astana EXPO 2017’ site harmoniously blends modern design aesthetics with the environment to create an exhibition site that is in a league of its own.
After the exhibition, the ‘Astana EXPO 2017’ structure and site will remain an iconic public space and landmark in Astana.
