The Association for International Standards, which functions under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, held its 13th Annual General Meeting recently.
Association for International Standards (AIS) has worked actively with the Sri Lankan Business Community introducing and promoting international standards over the past twelve years. These efforts have positively enabled businesses to be more competitive in both the domestic and international markets. Witnessing the success of many Sri Lankan businesses actively subscribing to and adopting international standards, AIS has continuously reviewed and re-drafted its strategic directions in moving forward. It has partnered with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce for support in marketing and handling of all administrative logistics of the Association. AIS promotes best practices in competitive strategy, leadership, marketing, productivity, quality, environment, safety, social accountability and IT, enabling Sri Lankan businesses to achieve a leading edge to compete successfully in local and global markets. At the AGM, General Manager of MIT Cargo (Pvt) Ltd (a subsidiary of Heyleys PLC) Priyantha Punchihewa was elected as President of AIS for the Year 2011-2012. In his address, the President mentioned that AIS will build bridges between interest groups on international and national best practices and standards to draw synergies to achieve its vision.
The AIS Vice President is Tissa Abeyewardene, Immediate Past President is Mahinda Saranapala and the Committee members for the Year 2011/2012 are Nihal Seneviratne, Rasitha Niroshana, P. P. Perera, Premasiri Gamage, Gayan Perera and I. G. Perera.
