One of Sri Lanka’s advanced packing material manufacturers for coconut substrates was recently awarded the ISO 9001:2008 certification for its quality management system. The company, Pack World Ltd., received the award from Ascent Lanka, a group of Lead Auditors providing consultation services to ACS Registrars Ltd., of the United Kingdom. Pack World which has also expanded into providing services to tea and garment exporters, manufactures ultra-violet two-layer, co-extruded grow bags with LDPE, LLDPE or HDPE with printing in up to six colours. “The ISO certification is a demonstration of the fulfilment of the core goals of Pack World Ltd., in supplying products of consistent high quality to our customers in Sri Lanka as well as to those overseas as an indirect exporter,” said Managing Director Harsha Peiris. “We are confident of capturing the export market and helping the country earn more foreign exchange as a direct exporter, than we do now as an indirect exporter.” Pack World Ltd. was also recognised by the National Chamber of Exporters recently when it was awarded a Merit Award in the Service Providers to the Export Sector category at the NCE Awards 2012. “We are greatly encouraged by this double award which is a fitting celebration of the 10th anniversary of the company,” said Peiris. He added that Pack World had reached this milestone by its commitment to satisfying the customers with consistent high quality during the past decade. The company was formed by Harsha Peiris and K.R.B. Wijesinghe; close friends and former colleagues. With limited resources, operations first began in a modest manner, in a makeshift structure. It has since grown to two vibrant companies with state-of-the-art factories at the Mahara Industrial Zone.
