An activist organisation in Sri Lanka has filed a case before court, seeking audit reports of the Dalada Maligawa Temple in Kandy.
A movement called the National Movement for the Protection of the Dalada has filed a petition against the Diyawadana Nilame (the custodian) before the Acting Kandy Magistrate, Raveendra Premaratne.
The Movement has stated in the petition that the Dalada Maligawa has not presented semiannual audit reports to the Buddhist Commissioner General since 2009 and that it was the responsibility of the Diyawadna Nilame to ensure that the reports were presented.
Rasika Sudath Punchi Bandara Senanayake and N.M. Ashoka Bandara have filed the petition through the Movement.
They have stated that the reports had to be presented with the signatures of the Asgiri and Malwatte chief incumbents and the failure to do so was a mystery.
