Virco International co-founder Nipuna Illangarathne receives the award
Virco International Ltd., a leading exporter of coconut, herbal products, spices and food stuffs, reaffirmed its excellence by winning the Bronze Award for the Best Exporter of the Year in the New Exports Sector at the Presidential Export Awards.
The awards ceremony, which was organised by the Export Development Board with the aim of recognising and encouraging entrepreneurs in the export sector of Sri Lanka and was held under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall recently. Nipuna Illangarathne and Dinesh Kodithuwakku, the founders of Virco International received awards at the ceremony.
“This is the second time we have received this award. The main reason why we have achieved so many successes, within a short span of time since entering the export sector is because we strive to provide high quality products. We would like to pay our tribute to the customers who purchase our products. I would also like to acknowledge all of our staff members who were committed to this achievement,” said Co-Chair Nipuna Illangarathne.
Virco International (www.virco.lk) contributes to the significant inflow of foreign exchange to the country by exporting products to Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, India and the United States. The business started by Nipuna and Dinesh Kodithuwakku, who graduated from the University of Moratuwa in 2015 with BSc in Electrical Engineering, now operates successfully in both local distribution and direct export sectors. A recipient of a number of awards and accolades, including the ISO 22000 certification, Virco International is set to expand its business further in the near future by introducing a number of value-added products to the international market.
