The first of the series of Entrepreneurship Caravans conducted by Venture Frontier Lanka Entrepreneur Caravan was held at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ruhuna in partnership with Marvel Crew Innovation and Entrepreneur Club of the University of Ruhuna on 23 September.
The series of ‘Entrepreneurship Caravan’ events are being held to build a social network of entrepreneurs around the country and lay the seeds of entrepreneurship among youth and encourage them to move forward with their new innovative ideas. The events may be recognised as a pre preparation or pre introduction given to university students for the ‘National Startup Challenge’ which will be happening on 10 and 11 November at the Dialog Acosta Auditorium.
Starting off the day’s happenings Design Thinking expert of Venture Frontier Lanka, Chris Doering conducted a session on Design Thinking at which the 100 or so university students were introduced to a basic design thinking process by getting them to follow through by design a wallet creatively. In the second session Heminda Jayaweera, Co-founder of Venture Frontier Lanka together with Hasanka Padukka, Co-founder of ‘Thuru App’ conducted a session on Collaboration and Networking.
They spoke about how they have collaborated in making their companies a success and of the important of networking. In concluding session Manju Gaunawardena, Research and Innovation CEO of LOLC spoke of the latest development in the Research field and the challenges he faced in obtaining patent for ‘Graphene’. He also shared his experience as a consultant of nanotechnology applications at Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC).
