The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh in collaboration with the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce (Asharqia Chamber) in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, Export Development Board and the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka organised a webinar on promoting bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 14 September with the participation of more than 100 companies from both countries.
Asharqia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Chairman Abdulhakim Alkhaldi welcomed the participants and assured the extension of the fullest support of the Chamber to the Sri Lankan exporters in providing necessary coordination with the Saudi importers to improve the business relations between both countries.
In his opening remarks, Additional Secretary of Economic Affairs in the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka mentioned that this program will enhance the trade and investment relations between the two countries. He further expressed his gratitude towards all the stakeholders who organised this event.
Sri Lanka Export Development Board Director (Marketing) Anoma Premathilake made a comprehensive presentation on Sri Lankan export products, covering a variety of Sri Lankan products and export companies which can cater to the Saudi market and also made a brief introduction of the sector-wise representation of the Sri Lankan companies.
Presentations were also made by Mohmmed Radwan from Asharqia Chamber on Saudi Economy and trade relations between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia with a briefing on Asharqia Chamber and its activities which currently have more than 100,000 members and Majid-Al Mula from the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia on the investment opportunities and trade climate in Saudi Arabia covering services provided by the Saudi Government for investors. During the presentation, Sri Lankan companies were invited to register themselves at the special trade portal of the Chamber which was created to facilitate business linkages between Saudi and Sri Lankan companies by the Asharqia Chamber.
The closing remarks were made by Minister (Commerce) of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh Sanjeewa Pattiwila. With the aim of increasing the total trade volume between the two countries, the Embassy organised this webinar session for the first time to introduce potential business partners from Saudi business community for the Sri Lankan traders.
