Somerset Estate, Talawakelle previously achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 890 on a BOPSp grade in the Western High Grown category at the auction concluded on 24 February. Exactly a month after and almost at the end of the Dimbulla Quality Season, the Estate has bettered its own record at Sale No. 12 held on 24 March by obtaining a premium price of Rs. 980 for the BOPSp grade.
This line of tea was purchased by Ceylon Tea Marketing Ltd. and was marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. The estate is ISO 22000 and Rainforest Alliance certified.
Somerset Estate falls into the Dimbulla Agro Climatic Region, the Sub Region of Talawakelle, Lindula and Nanu Oya, and is situated at the upper reaches of Nanu Oya renowned for its exquisite teas.
During the Western quality season a range of teas from full-bodied flavour to light, delicate and fragrant are produced, whilst teas from plantations closer to Nuwara Eliya are lighter in cup and more fragrant as in the case of teas produced by Somerset Estate.
