Shawlands Estate – Lunugala achieved all-time record prices of Rs. 1,160 per kg for a liquoring FBOPF1 grade, which was purchased by Ahmad Tea Ltd., and Rs. 980 per kg for a liquoring BOPSP grade purchased by Heritage Teas Ltd., in the Uva Medium category at the weekly online tea auctions held on 24 August. These record-breaking teas were marketed by Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.
This estate lies on the southern slopes of the Madulsima hill range at an elevation of 990 metres above sea level. Shawlands tea factory was constructed in the late 1930s and has undergone several renovations to meet international standards.
This factory is Rainforest Alliance, ISO 22000:2018/9001:2015 for the Manufacture of Black Tea and CQC-certified. Shawlands Estate has also been awarded a two-star rating by the Sri Lanka Tea Board for Excellence in Good Organising Practices and Excellence in Good Manufacturing Practices.
Shawlands Estate is managed by Hapugastenna Plantations PLC, which is a part of Finlays Tea Estates – Sri Lanka under the stewardship of Asela Ratnayake.
