Dr. Sarath Rajapatirana |
Prof. Sirimevan Colombage |
This is the first webinar organised by SLEA and its series of public forums, which will focus on the daunting challenges faced by policymakers in recovering the Sri Lankan economy in the short term as well as the medium-term.
The speakers will be University of Colombo Head Department of Economics Prof. Sirimal Abeyratne, World Bank former Economic Adviser Dr. Sarath Rajapatirana, and Open University of Sri Lanka Department of Social Studies Prof. Sirimevan Colombage.
SLEA said the rapid spread of COVID-19 pandemic has exerted severe consequences on the Sri Lankan economy, which had already encountered multiple economic setbacks including low economic growth, fiscal imbalances, balance of payments deficits and a mounting foreign debt burden even prior to the pandemic.
The challenges are unprecedented, and the remedies to be proposed must be carefully considered so as to avoid any unintended consequences. The panel comprises experienced professionals and academics who are competent to response objectively to questions posed at the webinar.
