S&D Chemicals Ltd. received the Presidential Export Award (highest foreign exchange earner for Chemical and Paint Sector) at the 22nd Presidential Export Awards organised by Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) which was held on 18 September under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
S&D was established in 1998 with the initial focus on manufacturing sanitation and cleaning products aimed at the hospitality and healthcare industry. Since then, the company has grown many folds and has diversified into a variety of new product areas catering to different industries including manufacturing and technical solutions provider of textile manufacturing industry and garment wet processing industry as well as final and intermediate products for personal care, home care, adhesives, sealants, surface coatings, industrial chemicals for the rubber industry and for water treatment. Being one of the very few companies with polymerisation capabilities under high pressure conditions and condensation reaction in the country, they manufacture and supply a number of polymers to different industry segments of the market.
S&D is one of the most diversified chemical manufacturing plants in Sri Lanka – manufacturing and handling a fast range of chemicals with production facilities operating in the Biyagama Industrial Zone and two sites in Kalutara. Their fundamental belief is that each customer has the right to have a product produced to their individual needs. It is for this reason that they are regarded as a highly innovative company in the South Asian region and beyond.

Recognising the need for sustainable process safety management practices to be a part of everyday business, S&D Chemicals has worked consistently to build understanding and competence in its workplace. A range of accredited and bespoke training programs, benchmarking studies, workshops and seminars are regularly provided to its staff to share best practice.
In addition to their manufacturing facilities in Sri Lanka, they have also established their own offices in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia, Maldives and a few African countries and their trade mark products are exported around the world.
S&D Group of Companies Managing Director Dayantha de Silva speaking on this recognition subsequent to the event said that the company’s goal is to be in par with multinational companies to compete in quality and economical aspects. The second phase of their manufacturing process is targeted more towards nanoparticle synthesis and bio technology involved processes with the aim of reducing carbon footprint to be a carbon neutral company by the year 2025. This, according to him will be a huge task and will involve manufacturing of more intermediate and economically viable products.
