Prices of several essential items reduced ahead of festive season

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce states that steps have been taken to reduce prices of several essential food items aiming to provide relief to the people during the festive season.

The Ministry issuing a statement said essential food items at reduced prices can be obtained from the 372 Sathosa outlets across the island with no shortage.

Accordingly, the price of a kilo of White Kekulu has been reduced to Rs. 62 per kilo from Rs. 65. The price of a kilo of Nadu rice which was at Rs 74 has been reduced to Rs 70.

The price of ‘Ponni Samba’ rice has been reduced from Rs. 78 to Rs. 71. A kilo of Red Kekulu will be sold at Rs. 73 and a basmati kilo will be Rs. 132.

The price of a kilo of big onions has been reduced from Rs. 152 to Rs. 135 and price of a kilo of sugar reduced from Rs. 107 to Rs. 100.

Price of a 425 gram can of fish has been reduced from Rs. 149 to Rs. 127 and a kilo of garlic will be sold at a concessionary price of Rs. 250.
